About the event
Welding- Everyone will get use the machine and perform a basic arc weld. We will teach you how to remove the slag and clean your weld. We will educate everyone on the proper safety equipment and tools that go along with the activity.
Plasma cutting- Everyone will cut a design out of a piece of sheet metal. We will show you how to set up the machine and the safety gear that goes along with it.
Animal Care Practices- We will be showing you basic hands on skills such as how to use an ear tagger, how to use an implant gun, give intramuscular injections, how to crop or notch an animal’s ear, and basic animal pharmaceuticals. We will have a variety of tools and equipment laid out for you to handle and practice with. Everyone will get to draw their own injection and deliver it into a dummy calf. Everyone will also get to crop a fake ear and deliver a growth hormone implant into it.
Lunch- We will be grilling our lunch on the open fire pit under the pavilion. It will most likely be boneless pork chops and a vegetable with a drink.
Carpentry & Woodworking- We are going to take this opportunity to replace some boards on the dock at the LTC. You can expect to use a circular saw, learn how to take measurements, make marks on lumber with a pencil and rafter square, install the boards using a cordless drill, and also paint the boards after installation.
The “Leadership Games & Activities” will be for anyone that would like to learn about leadership activities that can be performed with your students, officer teams, etc. If you have a game or activity that you would like to share with the group please bring the materials and be prepared to present.
If you know a new agriculture teacher that would benefit from this event please share it with them and encourage them to get their email address added to the list serve. If you know anyone that would like to be a presenter for the “Carpentry and Woodworking” portion please contact James Sharpe directly. If anyone would like to donate pressure treated 2x6’s for the dock please let me know. Finally, we do not have a sponsor for lunch so if you or anyone you know would like to be a sponsor please reach out to me.
